About Pee-Cycling

Our Founders
PeeCycling is an engineering driven university spin out dedicated to proving that the future of sanitation is not about disposal but about recovery. Born from years of research at the University of Cape Town’s Future Water Institute, we bridge the gap between academic innovation and industrial scale impact. Our mission is to transform urban sanitation into a circular resource engine that produces high value fertilizers and reclaimed water directly where they are needed most.
Professor Dyllon Randall
Co-Founder
Dyllon is a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) and Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town. His journey into sanitation began in 2015 at Eawag (the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology) where he worked on the "Reinvent the Toilet Challenge." Since joining UCT in 2017, he has pioneered several world firsts in nutrient recovery and bio materials. Dyllon’s work is focused on translating complex membrane processes and chemical equilibrium into robust decentralized systems that can solve real world infrastructure challenges across Africa and beyond.

Dr Caitlin Courtney
Co-Founder
Caitlin is a Chemical Engineer and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at Stellenbosch University. Her expertise lies in the design and optimization of resource recovery systems, having developed the core PeeCycling process during her PhD under Professor Randall’s supervision. Her work ensures that the technology we develop is not only scientifically groundbreaking but also operationally viable for the partners and communities we serve. Together with Dyllon, Caitlin has been instrumental in moving the project from laboratory proof of concept to the commissioning of our first commercial scale pilots.
